Persian Flower Paisley Pocket Square
Next up in our product focus series; we take a look at one of our most striking & colourful pocket square collections in the form of the stunning Persian Flower Paisley range. From its ancient Persian and Indian origins with its hidden messages and mysterious symbolism, the iconic motif has had quite a journey since its humbled origins. The paisley design and pattern has been adopted and worn in the Western world for many decades, adorned the bandanas of cowboys and bikers, been adopted by the 19th Century boho set, been popularised by The Beatles, and ushered in the hippy era and become an emblem of rock ‘n’ roll swagger and swank. We can say with great confidence that the Rampley & Co take on this classic design is a little more suave and polished these days.
Paisley print origins
Paisley as a design refers to a specific type of pattern characterised by its iconic curved teardrop shapes known in its local origin as
Knowing we wanted to add this world-renowned printed pattern into our range, we sourced and found our sublime version based on a sample pattern made for a printed shawl at Garratt Print Works in Wandsworth, London, about 1850, in the V&A's collection. At the time of its origin, in the mid-19th century, paisley shawls and fabrics became indispensable accessories for the fashionable Victorians where this pattern was requested and designed based on the distinctive paisley motif.
Part of a wider 8 piece collection, the origin option for the print was the white tonal colourway, which was designed as an alternative to the classic white pocket square, providing some additional yet subtle detailing within a classic colour palette of white and ivory tones. The idea behind this was to produce a square perfect for more formal occasions such as weddings while still making it a talking point through the use of an historic pattern from 1850. Based on this success, we expanded into additional colourways to suit rich jewel tones, subtle pastels and statement bolder prints to mark any occasion.
Colour Guide
With so much choice at hand from our paisley print range we have grouped the base colours into three options below with some distinct styling suggestions to help you chose your item of choice.
1. Blue Base Tones
Blues and navy tones outside white are probably the easiest to work with for matching your occasion wear, a classic menswear palette. You can easily pair this with a white sateen shirt, our classic superfine merino wool suit jacket and matching tie for a tonal pop of print and highlight colour.
2. Green Base Tones
Earthy and olive based greens are a great seasonal option to add some cooler tones into your look, working well with other autumnal based colours such as browns, stones and ecru bases which seem to be everywhere on street style and social media at present. Fabrics can be a little heavier here with wools and tweed suiting the favoured option here.
3. Orange Base Tones
Probably the boldest option colour wise out of our collection, but in our opinion the most impactful and a statement piece. This warm hues of this colour gives depth and richness to your look, we would wear this with Navy or Grey based suiting for that contrast yet perfectly combined look.
